Fertilizer monitoring is conducted by th ARC (Agricultural Research Council) by Mr. William Deale according to a protocol as agreed between Grain SA and the Fertilizer Society of South Africa (FSSA).

The excisting regulations for N, P and K are utilized and the new proposed regulations for all elements (N, P and K) in single element fertilizer (for example LAN of KCL) are defined as -4% and in compounds / blends as 7%.  In any given compound / blend the allowable Zn deficit is calculated on a sliding scale.

Fertilizer samples of all fertilizer types was extracted by the Institute for Grain Crops during the 2008 / 2009 season and forwarded to three independent laboratories for analysis.  The variances in terms of nitrogen (N) was as high as 13%.  In terms of phosphates (P) and potassium content (K) the maximum variances were 20% and 57% respectively.

HISTORICALLY – Greenlands has been successful from inception of monitoring in 2004 up to 2009 in that, thusfar, no deviations have been encountered.

This result was not coincidental, but as a consequence of continuous strict quality control, thorough and regular plant maintenance together with correct product formulations.
